I am a photographer that presently lives in Boise, Idaho. Photography has been a passion of mine since I was an undergraduate art student. I seldom have a preconceived idea of what I am going to photograph when I go out with my camera. I am motivated to photograph by what I see, it is often something totally unexpected that compels me to make an image.
I have had the good fortune to be able to travel and numerous times that has been to Japan. Moments In Transition is a series I began in 2009 while on a train ride from Nagoya to Matsumoto. As the landscape sped by I made a series of photographs without consciously trying to control or compose the image. The resultant images from that effort were completely spontaneous and altogether surprising to me. The visual and conceptual content I had captured spoke to more than the too predictable qualities of traditional landscape images, no matter how satisfying those might have been. The images from that series are unified by the creative and conceptual process with which I make them. Moments in Transition includes images from the multiple trips to Japan, where it originated, and now includes work made in both Boise and Germany.
